01 Types of visas according to the purpose of entering Vietnam

Vietnam visas are classified into 21 main types, of which the 6 most popular visa types are:

  • Tourist visa (DL)

  • Business visa (DN1 – DN2)

  • Work visa (LD1 – LD2)

  • Investment visa (DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4)

  • Family visit visa (TT)

  • Electronic Visa (EV)


02 Updated information about Vietnam Tourist visa (DL)

Tourist visas are issued to foreigners who come to Vietnam for tourism purposes only, not to work in Vietnam.

Depending on the length of stay and number of entries, Vietnam tourist visas are divided into:

  • 30 days single entry visa

  • 30-day multiple-entry visa

  • 90-day single-entry visa, and

  • 90-day multiple-entry visa


How to apply, cost and processing time for a Vietnam Tourist visa?

Currently you have 2 ways to apply for a tourist visa to Vietnam, including:

  • Apply for Vietnam e-visa (this is the simplest way to apply for a tourist visa currently, applicable to citizens of all countries in the world). E-visas are issued with a validity period of up to 90 days, one-entry for 25 USD or multiple entries for 50 USD, and payable via bank transfer. Processing time: 3-5 working days

  • Apply for an entry visa at the airport (Visa on arrival – VOA). This is how to apply for an emergency tourist visa for tourists. You need to pay 2 types of fees: (1) service fee - paid online to us. We will work with the Vietnam Immigration Department to obtain a visa approval letter for you and then send you via email, (2) stamping fees – to be paid in cash to the Immigration Department staff. at Vietnam airport. Service fees will be fixed according to each visa type, number of applicants and processing time, and stamping fees will be fixed according to visa type. Processing time: 5-7 working days


What are the general regulations regarding Vietnam tourist visas?

Vietnam tourist visa is not required for some nationalities on the list of countries exempt from Vietnam visa.

In case you are required to have a visa to enter Vietnam, you need to meet the criteria below:

  • Current passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive in Vietnam (temporary passports are not accepted)

  • Passport with at least 2 blank pages for visa and immigration stamps;

  • 02 valid passport photos


03 Updated information about Vietnam E-visa (EV)

Electronic visa is a type of visa issued online by the Immigration Department. Electronic visas are valid for a maximum of 90 days, one or multiple entries and electronic visa holders can enter Vietnam through 1 of 33 regulated border gates.

Electronic visas are currently only issued to citizens of 81 countries.


What are the general regulations regarding Vietnam electronic visas?

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entering Vietnam and at least 2 blank pages;

  • 02 passport photo following Vietnam visa photo regulations:

    • Photo size is 4 x 6 cm (standard Vietnamese photo size) or 2 x 2 inches.

    • Submitted photos must be identical and taken within the last 6 months.

    • Color photo, printed on photo paper.

    • The five senses are clearly visible, the background is a bright color.

    • Do not wear hats or headscarves, unless it is a religious regulation.

    • Do not wear glasses unless they are nearsighted/farsighted/astigmatic glasses.

    • Don't laugh.

  • Soft copy of photo and personal information page in passport

  • Bank card to pay e-visa fee online (American Express cards are not accepted)


How to apply Vietnam E-visa

  • Step 1: Access official website to register for Vietnam electronic visa for foreigners. Select Electronic Visa, then select Foreigners to continue.

  • Step 2: Upload portrait photos and passport photos of foreigners, then fill in all information.

  • Step 3: Check the box to agree then select Agree and continue. Verify the accuracy of the information and then receive a verification code. Save that code somewhere easy to remember because you'll need it later.

  • Step 4: Pay the e-visa service fee (25USD for one entry / 50USD for multiple entries) through the online platform.

  • Step 5: Visit one of the following links after a few days (~3-5 working days), enter the required information in the search box to check the electronic visa processing status.

  • Step 6: Receive a link to download and then print the e-visa once your visa application form is approved.

04 Requirements for child to exit Vietnam

In general, a Vietnamese passport or a Vietnamese exit visa is required by the Vietnamese government in the event your child needs to exit Vietnam.

Recommends that unless the child is accompanied by both parents, the adult has a note from the child’s other parent (or, in the case of a child traveling with grandparents, uncles or aunts, sisters or brothers, friends, or in groups, a note signed by both parents) stating “I acknowledge that my wife/husband/etc. is traveling out of the country with my son/daughter/group. He/She/They has/have my permission.”

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months

  • Portrait photo size 4x6cm, no glasses or accessories allowed.

06 Why is my Vietnam visa application rejected?

  • Filled in wrong name format. Incorrect declaration of foreign information: gender, nationality.

  • Uploading inappropriate photos. Violating regulations on portrait photos and passport photos: Photos are older than 6 months, photos are blurry, not clear

  • Passport or international travel document that is no longer valid or damaged;

  • Children under 14 years old who are not accompanied by a parent, guardian or authorized person;

  • Declaring false information, falsifying documents to be granted a valid visa to enter, exit, and reside in Vietnam;

  • People with mental illness or infectious diseases that pose a danger to public health;

  • Be deported from Vietnam no more than 3 years from the effective date of the deportation decision;

  • Due to disease prevention, natural disasters, national defense, security, social order and safety;

  • Foreigners forced to leave Vietnam no later than 6 months from the effective date of the forced exit decision;

  • Foreigners who do not belong to one of the countries listed in the list of electronic visa issuance according to the provisions of Decree No. 17/2019/ND-CP dated February 1, 2019 of the Government.
